MACQUARIE LIGHTSTATION, VAUCLUSE

Overview:

During this special 20-minute tour, an experienced volunteer guide will regale you with the storied history of Australia’s first lighthouse, built at Vaucluse in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs in 1818. After exploring the lower level, you will ascend 100 steps to the lantern room and, from there, access a balcony for a breathtaking panoramic view of Sydney Harbour and the Pacific Ocean (and a selfie opportunity that will make you the envy of friends and family).

Cost: $5 per adult, $3 per child (12 & under) and $3 per concession/senior.

Hours & times: Tours will run between 10am and 4pm on select Sundays. Tickets for each date released on the 1st day of the month they are scheduled to run.  Each tour runs for 20 mins.  Due to COVID-19 restrictions we are unable to run the regular Macquarie Lighthouse tour day in February. We hope to recommence the guided tour program at the end of April, with bookings open on 1st April. Please check back here then for the latest information.

To comply with the NSW Government’s COVID-19 public health orders, we are limiting the number of people per tour.  Further, members of each group must ensure they:

  • maintain a physical distance of 1.5 metres from others;
  • have not travelled overseas within the last 14 days;
  • have not had contact with a confirmed COVID-19 case within the last 14 days; and
  • are not unwell and have not had any COVID-19 symptoms in the last 14 days.

 

Important Info:

  • Content warning:Although this is an all-ages tour, people under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Further, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples are advised that the tour contains stories (and may contain images and/or visuals) of deceased people.
  • Site conditions: This tour involves climbing 100 steps to the lantern room, and it is not suitable for wheelchairs and mobility scooters. A good level of fitness and mobility is required and it is not suitable for those with heart or breathing conditions. You must comply with all directions of the Guides, Rangers and Security.
  • What to bring: Suitable walking shoes, a sunhat and wet weather gear (if needed).
  • Weather conditions: Tours will proceed regardless of weather conditions except in the event of extreme weather. Participants will be notified via SMS if the tour is cancelled and a full refund of the ticket price (less booking fees) will be made. Access to the balcony is subject to weather conditions.
  • Refund policy:Tickets are non-refundable, transfers can be made up to seven (7) days prior to the tour date.

  

Please note: This tour has high touch points including hand rails and entering confined spaces, we recommend providing own hand sanitiser and wearing a face mask.
